Have  you ever wondered how an artist turns a simple sketch into a piece of art?

There are a tonne of different methods for drawing. Some artists draw everything by hand and then trace it in, others create everything directly on the computer.

I’ve always worked somewhere in between, and I don’t really have one specific way that I draw. Sometimes I go freehand, other times I work on a computer.

I wanted to give you a sneak peek behind the scenes for my work in progress from an upcoming coloring book.

For this design, I started with a quick freehand sketch in my sketchbook, which I then scanned into my computer. From there, as you can see in this video, I used my Wacom Cintiq tablet to draw directly to my computer by hand. I’ve used Adobe Illustrator (a drawing program). The thing I love about drawing directly to the computer is that I can tweak and edit the design as I go, plus there are a few handy shortcuts so I don’t have to draw every little detail again and again.

This picture is still a work in progress, so keep an eye out in my new books later this year to see if you can spot it!
