I love this new tool especially the fact everything is together in one tool, from the ready made Palettes of the colour cubes to options for me to create my own as well as get a better sense of my stash. Best birthday gift EVER!

I’m having a ball just familiarising myself with how the Colour Companion Pro Lifetime works. It feels even way more fun than the Free Essentails did.

Accessing the Colour Companion is like finding a vivid coloured chocolate box on Christmas. So much to try out and explore. While it is still in beta there are no help manuals or videos. If you are curious and patient you will discover treasures. I love that I can get palette colour matches to my specific pencils not just to an entire 100 box set. For anyone into colour this is heaven.

Online I click on any keyword that interests me and can wander off anywhere.Having the .PDF version handy helps stop me getting lost.
I use the Favourites button, but being a bit old I sometimes forget to click that.
I like the photos which show the original context of the colours but that never limits the way I use the colours.
Also the ability to sort and compare my art supplies helps me control the chaos.

I’m a long time lurker of the channel who was in the middle of trying to build a database via codes from artistpigments.org and was so excited to see someone was already doing this project! Having already begun trying, I realized 150 was nothing compared to the work and labor of love this was going to be. Its April 2026 and I will be checking in every day because I cant wait to try it!

I preordered the lifetime access for the Color Companion when it was announced in October and received access this past week, and it has been absolutely amazing! As of the time of writing this review, the site is still in beta mode so things are still being reviewed, added, etc, but it is one of the coolest websites I’ve ever subscribed to, and so I really wanted to write a very in depth review for it.

First off, I do a lot of coloring, and also my own art via drawing/painting/markers, so using a color palette as a launching point is a great start to find inspiration and try new color combos I wouldn’t necessarily use. This is why I am a huge fan of Sarah’s products to begin with – they are fun, helpful, and inspiring. But the Color Companion takes it even further.

I have spent hours on end at a time not only organizing my favorite cards from the cubes into easy to access categories, but deep diving into the colors in those palettes. From finding colors to explore on a palette, the site works with color theory to show warmer/cooler shades, plus the different complimentary colors and more; when Sarah said last year on the video showing the site concept about it creating a color rabbit hole, she was not kidding and I am here for it. On top of that, I can save any color or color variation I find into my favorites or a collection I created so I can find them again quickly in the future!
It’s great too if you do digital art (which I do also), because all you do is click the color picture/swatch of the color you like, such as one of the lighter/darker/warmer/etc and it automatically saves the hex code to your clipboard. You can then paste that directly into your art program color finder – I use Krita, so I can paste it into my advanced color selector in the hex code section and it pulls the color up for me. This makes it so easy to figure out digital colors and combinations where it can be incredibly easy to get overwhelmed otherwise.

The majority of what I do, though, is traditional on paper with physical mediums, and the color companion is so great with that too! I’ve been able to put in several of my supplies in the section for my art stash (my Ohuhu markers, Prismacolor pencils, and acrylic paints) to start off. More supplies are being added ongoing, so a lot of my other pencils aren’t on there yet, but since I have them swatched out, I can use Prismacolor or Ohuhu as my base to match other brands I have. I can find a color or palette I like, and then see how those colors translate to my pencils and markers. It’s been a lot of fun playing around and also has made narrowing down colors easier for me as well for my traditional coloring and art.

I also like that it suggests colors I wouldn’t think about necessarily since everyone interprets color differently and it goes off the technical side of colors – I struggle seeing differences in reds and oranges sometimes, for instance, so the companion will suggest a different pencil or marker than what I would maybe think of first, which leads to fun experimentation and also learning more about what I do and don’t like color wise. Then when you do find something you love, you can export it and it saves the export so you can print out a comprehensive sheet based on a color or palette that matches to your supplies and offers more suggestions for additional colors.

Finally, just something to keep in mind if you are coming in at the ground level like I am. Since it is still in beta mode, it is importantly to remember that things are still being added, so features like the color mixing feature, subscriber only palettes, and many supplies are still in production as of the time of my writing this review; the website is also going to be continually adding things regardless – supplies and palettes, etc. For me, I love being part of this from the start and consider each additional bit a pleasant thing to look forward to. Building something like this from scratch is no small feat, and I am incredibly impressed. The customer service too, as always, is fantastic and I could not be happier supporting Sarah and her team. I highly recommend getting the color companion subscription or lifetime access!

I have 10 sets of pencils, all sorted by color and then numbered. Is there a way to enter this numbering for the given color?
