This is a full update and second edition of the Color Cube Volume 1 and 2. The boxes themselves are getting an update, and the palette cards have been reviewed and recategorized for a better experience.
Out of the original 500 palettes from the First Edition, 100 have been retired.
Alongside the new Volumes 1 and 2, the introduction of Volumes 3 and 4 gives more opportunities for better categories and variety, so any box has a huge range of colour choices on its own, without needing all 4.
There are a lot of other updates still to be announced, so it may be best to wait for the full launch before making a decision on which Color Cube is best for you.
Here’s the full breakdown of the changes to the palette cards:
Volume 1 (2nd Edition) keeps 160 from 1st Edition. I’ve moved 25 from Volume 2 (1st Ed.) and created 65 new palettes.
Volume 2 (2nd Edition) keeps 124 from 1st Edition. I’ve moved 15 from Volume 1 (1st Ed.) and created 111 new palettes.
Volume 3 (2nd Edition) includes 187 new palettes, plus 17 from Volume 1 (1st Ed.) and 46 from Volume 2 (1st Ed.).
Volume 4 (2nd Edition) includes 219 new palettes, plus 13 from Volume 1 (1st Ed.) and 18 from Volume 2 (1st Ed.).

I originally purchased the 1st edition & was captivated with the colours and as they were if you just wanted to reach in and look at colours for a while they were great, however I had a bit of a problem when I needed an idea for choosing the colours to the new home we are building. I had a very strong idea in mind, most call it “Dark & Moody”, I was thinking “storm Warning” regardless of what you call the pallet I had in mind, I had to troll through both boxes to find what I was looking for. Add to that I have developed arthritis in both hands & the original format made them somewhat difficult to use. They are great and having to look through colours is never a hardship, however if you have time constraints you may not have the time & I got to thinking that the cards would be so much better if they were in some sort of order & if there was a little room in the boxes so the cards were not so tight in them and you could pull out & replace the cards easier…..Then BOOM,CRASH, BAM! I got an email about the updated & expanded sets & went & had a look…It was as if my mind had been read! The new sets are sorted into categories & are now very much easier to get in and out of the boxes. You can still spend hours whiling away your time & finding colour combos that you want, but if time is against you, there is the added benefit of the categories & they aren’t just categorised as simple colour ranges. No,No,No! They are labeled as ideas? Concepts? I don’t know what to call them, I will leave it up to you as to what you think of them as, have a look at my pictures as I will show them in there. The quality is still there in the new cards. The customer service I received was outstanding. They system is well priced & excellent value for the price. I don’t know what else to say, other than if you are teetering on “to buy or not to buy”, I would buy, you won’t be disappointed. As I was taking photos I remembered as you will see in pics 5&6 you can have those dividers with either side to the front so the categories can be effectively labelled as a number range or the more fanciful & in my opinion, category name. Also you will see that each divider has thumbnails of all the cards in that category. Seriously, I don’t know what else I can say, there are a lot of new features with the updated sets & all of them work to make them way easier to use & there are undoubtedly some that I haven’t seen yet. There is so many applications these can be used for. I am naturally very good with colours & am often referred to as nuts with my colour combos…Until people see them and go, “oh! Now I get it” but even people like me will benefit from these. I find them to be well worth the outlay, which is quite reasonable.

What an ingenious idea! I do a lot of traditional multicolor knitting and I used the cards to sort through and group my yarn stash. The cards really help identify „pop“ colors.
