This is a full update and second edition of the Color Cube Volume 1 and 2. The boxes themselves are getting an update, and the palette cards have been reviewed and recategorized for a better experience.
Out of the original 500 palettes from the First Edition, 100 have been retired.
Alongside the new Volumes 1 and 2, the introduction of Volumes 3 and 4 gives more opportunities for better categories and variety, so any box has a huge range of colour choices on its own, without needing all 4.
There are a lot of other updates still to be announced, so it may be best to wait for the full launch before making a decision on which Color Cube is best for you.
Here’s the full breakdown of the changes to the palette cards:
Volume 1 (2nd Edition) keeps 160 from 1st Edition. I’ve moved 25 from Volume 2 (1st Ed.) and created 65 new palettes.
Volume 2 (2nd Edition) keeps 124 from 1st Edition. I’ve moved 15 from Volume 1 (1st Ed.) and created 111 new palettes.
Volume 3 (2nd Edition) includes 187 new palettes, plus 17 from Volume 1 (1st Ed.) and 46 from Volume 2 (1st Ed.).
Volume 4 (2nd Edition) includes 219 new palettes, plus 13 from Volume 1 (1st Ed.) and 18 from Volume 2 (1st Ed.).

Sarah, I’m absolutely in love! The first time around I purchased the digital version and honestly I didn’t use it as much as I thought for various reasons like ‘my phone is too small’ among other excuses! This time, I decided to grab a couple of boxes. I went for 3 & 4 because my digital version has a lot of 1 & 2 in it and I do still use it from time to time, but mostly I grabbed 3 & 4 for their vibrancy against the black and it screamed at me to ‘pick me, pick me’. I’m so glad I did. These are friggin’ amazing! I cannot compare to the first release as far as the new box design goes as I didn’t purchase them, but based on what I see, I can tell you that the new design is fantastic! I love that you can easily leaf through and use the lid to help sort etc. Not to mention the quality of the box is super strong and sturdy as is the cards themselves. One last mention is the shipping. You spared no expense on packaging and I for one appreciate it. These could have come through the worst battle to get here and there was never any worry about damage. Extremely well packaged. Well worth shipping charge. Oooh, and I love the outside back with your signature designs all over it. haha Nice added touch! Again, well worth every penny and at the risk of repeating myself…. I’M IN LOVE WITH THESE CUBES!!!

I bought this as my weakness is colour and I am the type of girl that needs my art products in every colour, even though I have enough knowledge to make my own from the basics … but colour just makes me happy.
I had the original colour cubes and knew I would want volumes 3&4 … but then the set of 4 was so pretty together!!
I was concerned that my colour magpieness had influenced my decision & I would regret it as whilst the new features of a more accessible box and the dividers were useful, I was managing with the old ones fine.
However after setting up the 4 boxes I was really excited and could see the benefits immediately of the redesign.
The cards are more accessible which makes it easier to use so I feel like I will now use it even more. The categories will cut down on search time ie if you are colouring a cake look at the cake section, landscape ect, ect … previously it was a case of searching through 500 colour combos and whilst that was fabulous it could becoming overwhelming and end up not choosing anything … but the ability to reduce your choice by a section could be really helpful. A bit like when you are in your studio you can have so many art supplies you don’t know where to start but reducing the choice to one medium one substrate can at least get you started.
I’m excited to see how much they will be used in my art/craft practice.
