How is this different from The Color Catalog?
The Color Catalog is a digital and interactive color palette guide. This is a printable add-on that allows you to swatch your pencils and markers to the palettes from The Color Catalog. The original Color Catalog is still the easiest and quickest way to find a color palette for inspiration.
Can I buy this without The Color Catalog?
Yes, but you’ll get a very good discount by buying them together in the same order. Separately, The Color Catalogs are worth $29 per volume, and the Companion is worth $47. You can get the Complete Color Catalog Bundle including all 3 for $60 (Saving $45).
How accurate are the colors?
Because colors vary between different screens, different devices, different printers and different brands of pencils or markers, it is impossible to guarantee color accuracy. Because colored pencils come in limited ranges, not every color has a matching pencil, so I’ve provided what I believe is the closest match possible with each range, based on the manufacturers swatches, the actual products, and my own printed swatches and palettes. If you are looking for perfect colors for graphic design or professional projects, it is better to refer to the CMYK, RGB and hex codes provided in The Color Catalog.

The concept, content and the amount of work you put into it absolutely gets a ‘5.’ The need for it gets a ‘5,’ and I’ve used it consistently since receiving it, and it is so very helpful. However, navigating for the original and individual product charts is cumbersome, and I admit that is likely due to some error on my part. It appears that the companions for the individual brands are not at all interactive; is that right? I was hoping there would be an easier way to get to, say chart 162 without continuous scrolling. I can go a certain page, but that consists of guess-work as what charts on it. Not that big a deal, just a nuisance. One big question: Some pencil suggestions on the charts have an asterik (*) but I cannot find anywhere what the asterik is supposed to be indicative of. I also believe the price of this should get a ‘5,’ considering the voluminous work that went into compiling this and the amount of information. At one point, I thought about going to a paint store and getting a bunch of the free sample cards for paint! (I would have asked first, of course.) At any rate, I really love this guide, and I’m glad it’s in electronic form because some of the pages would be getting worn out very quickly! But really — I want to know about the asterik —

I love this product. The only thing I would improve is: it would be nice if there was an app so that you didn’t have to wait for the website to load all the time. The number of downloads seems low for how much I’d like to access it and the price. The only other thing is that when you select a pallet, it takes you out of your search. So if I search for “animals”, and I select a pallet, the pallet I select is now in number order instead of being able to zoom in on all of the “animal” pallets at once (not sure that makes sense). But it’s a supremely a helpful, beautiful tool! It has seriously upped my game with coloring.

I have always loved color. Once I became a paper crafter that dabbles in mixed media, it became a struggle and a love/hate relationship. My color skills were always hit or miss. I watched some videos that Sarah Renae Clark did on shading with colored pencils. I fell in love with her style and art using colored pencils. I bought the large print NLT Inspire Prayer Bible last month and wanted to get ideas for best ways to use colored pencils for pictures in the Bible. The color palates are gorgeous. I can browse through them for hours, and as I go along I write down the numbers of ones I want to use for reference pictures also. My one problem is that I downloaded them on my Kindle first. Unfortunately that doesn’t work with your program. I can only look page by page. The index and page links don’t work on the Kindle. I can use our big computer though, so then i can go quickly and get the page number on there and then flip through to that page on my Kindle. I’ll have to get an Android instead of a Kindle next time!

I’ve just started using them for cardmaking and have searched by color. Love the companions, as well – I have Ohuhu Markers and Prismacolor pencils, but not full sets of each. I doubt I will print them.
The only problem I’m having with the pdf is being able to toggle back and forth between pages quickly for the sake of comparison – this could be Edge – the back arrow doesn’t seem to work. I’ll just have to make note of each page number. Can you tell me what the *means after some of the colors in the Companion charts? Thanks.

The Prisma color names and numbers don’t match. Dissapointed. I got because I have a hard time getting the color I want. It’s great otherwise. I would have thought all prisma colors regardless of country would have the same name and number. Some names of colors I don’t even have i.e Marigold and Copper. Only used the one card haven’t done any others yet. Bouncing back and forth for color name and then color number is annoying. I can see where the cubes might have been a better choice.
