I really love the Swatchdex in design and idea and I love that the paper is much heavier and can take more layers of marker or whatever you plan to throw at it. I love that it is blank and that it allows for more than just a basic color swatch of all the colors separately allowing for reference samples of blends. I also like that it makes thumbing to the color you are looking to reference much faster to find rather than having to flip through cards or separate sheets of paper.

The paper weight is nice, though for me I am finding that I get splotches where the marker ink absorbed unevenly when trying to do a single layer of marker and it feels like the paper doesn’t really want to take the ink, so it ends up feeling kind of dry. I do use Copics which already have a slower ink diffusion than say Ohuhu might. I don’t know if this is part of it, but it feels like I have to do two layers to get a smooth color or let it really saturate the paper. It feels like it is 100% cotton paper with how it bleeds over once the ink does diffuse into it, and with the 100% cotton paper I have used, it does give a very similar dry feeling when trying to use markers. Now this could also be a technique thing, but I feel when swatching, I don’t think a specific technique should be necessary. And I do understand the need for a paper that can handle a wide variety of media and finding that balance for a product that can handle that versatility is always a challenge. I do think this paper is going to work better for some mediums than others, I think colored pencils and watercolor are going to benefit the most from this.

Overall I think this is a very high quality product made with quality materials. And the price point is way cheaper than I would have expected for this type of product, especially the box of 4 (which I did not buy as I wanted to test the product to see if it would work in my workflow). I have only had the time to do fill in two of the cards and color the front and back cards. I do plan to finish swatching my Copic in the block I started, along with the few colors of Blick Markers I have, and the two Ohuhu markers I got to test. The second block I plan to use for my colored pencils (Prismacolor Premier, Polychromos, and Caran d’Ache) which I expect I will have better luck with than I currently am with the Copics. And I think this will provide a solution for swatching colored pencils as those products seem to lack any official swatching options.

TL;DR: Would recommend; may not be best for all brands of marker, mileage may vary; heavy weight paper; seems like it be very suitable for colored pencil swatching; great price point.

(P.S. Sarah, love your videos! Especially the lightfastness tests and any of the videos where you go out of your way to test a huge range of products. Also the marker video with Kat was very helpful and helped me solve why my markers caps were cracking, so THANK YOU!

P.S.S. Please don’t take my score or review of your product as a knock against it, I am just very thorough and particular)

The Swatchdex worked wonderfully! I had a great time swatching out all of my Prismacolor pencils. This is the best solution to having swatches handy, hands down. My only complaint is that as I was swatching, the screw that holds it together kept coming loose and popping off. I had to keep putting it back on but it was only a minor inconvenience. Still works great!

This is great and so useful I have found it easier to compare colours together and see which colours work together. Also love how many different possibilities of what you use them for, simple swatch your art product, blending and colour techniques

Love these new swatch cards. I’ve been looking for a better way to swatch my ohuhu markers and these gave me the perfect size to do a split of full and double strength of the marker. Thank you

Absolutely fantastic product. I haven’t used it yet as I am preparing my pencils. Can’t wait to use it. I have such a short memory, I decided to use part of it with a row of three colours (light, mid, dark) that I can reference when I need to use those colours again.
